Here is a link to a pretty good Forbes article, but I have read other similar articles. I just brought this up to see what comments might be elicited. This could be pretty useful to know about. I just heard about it myself and decided to look into it. A web search on Sec 139 has quite a few articles related to Covid-19 but of course you have to know what to search for.

Subject: Re: [clientwhysconnect] Sec 139 disaster payments
If you were referring to our Fall Seminar, fringe benefits were covered in Lesson 2, and Disaster Losses in Lesson 7. However, your comment related to 'payments that are non-taxable to employees and deductible to businesses” sent me to Sec 139 thinking I may have overlooked the ability of an employer to make tax free payments to employees disaster losses. My reading of Sec 139, seems to indicate Sec 139 payments are only made by a Federal, State, or local government, or agency or instrumentality thereof, in connection with a qualified disaster. If you could shed some more light on the issue, I would appreciate it.
Always looking for tax strategies….LOL.
Happy Holidays,
Lee

I haven’t seen any discussion about this. Did I miss it? In any case payments that are non-taxable to employees and deductible to businesses is something that should be explored.
